Richtek Announces RT318xx Products Qualified as WPC Qi EPP Certified
Wireless Power Receiver and Transmitter |
Richtek is committed to the development of wireless charging solutions
after the completion of the merger with MediaTek. Since 2016, Richtek
has taken full ownership of all MediaTek's wireless power solution
business including product development and strategic planning. In
this issue, Richtek is proud to announce that both the RT3181A based
MPA5 wireless power transmitter solution and the RT3180W based wireless
power receiver solution are fully qualified as WPC Qi EPP (Extended
Power Profile) Certified Products. |
The WPC Qi standard has become a mature and widely adopted specification. Today’s power hungry mobile phones require higher charging power, so the EPP products with output power up to 15W have gradually gained in popularity in the growing wireless charging power market. In order to shorten time to market, Richtek WPC Qi EPP certified wireless modules can be directly placed into customer prototype designs. Unlike general testing evaluation boards with larger size optimized layouts, Richtek wireless modules are laid out in a tiny configuration which match small prototype dimensions, allowing quick prototype design without massive layout changes. The below pictures show examples of the actual applications. |
|
Since both BPP (Baseline Power Profile <5W) and EPP (Extended
Power Profile 5W-15W) qualifications share the same logo, the only
way to identify whether a WPC product is qualified as BPP or EPP
is by checking the official WPC website. All Richtek WPC Qi EPP
solutions are certified products so they are listed on the official
WPC website. It is crucial to avoid any compatibility problems or
confusion on products marked as ‘fast charging’ or ‘fast wireless
charging’ which may only be BPP certified. Please search the
WPC website and check the ‘power profile’ for EPP certification.
The examples of RT3181 based MPA5 EPP TX and BPP A11 TX are shown
below. |

In the booming wireless power market, we see an increasing demand
on EPP (5W-15W) charging products but power dissipation is always
a concern. |
Therefore, 10W is a moderate specification for system design
in MPA5 or MPA2 wireless transmitter base.
In terms
of wireless power system efficiency, the RT3181A in MPA5
base performs better than other manufacturers in the range
of 10W receiver output power. (Please see the diagram on
the right side) |

Wireless Power Circuit Design and Solutions
|
This talk covers the wireless power standard and market
information. Two major wireless power standards, WPC and
Airfuel Alliance are introduced. Some applications and
RT3181 wireless power solutions are demonstrated as well. |
This talk covers the circuit design considerations and solutions
for magnetic resonant and magnetic inductive wireless power
transfer. Richtek RT3180 multi-mode RX solution and design
examples are also discussed. |
